Great as a pre-dinner or brunch cocktail the Campari Soda is an easy and delicious low-alcohol drink.
Need something easy to make that's a little more unique than your average whiskey ginger ale?
A Campari & Soda might just be the answer.
It's great for all types of occasions and has a unique flavor that let's you almost trick yourself into thinking you took the time to make cocktails.
What to know about Campari
Campari is bittersweet Italian liquor made with a secret (of course) blend of herbs, spices, and who knows what else.
The taste is balanced between bitter, sweet, and botanical with flavors of orange candy backed up by a complex herbal blend.
It's herbal bitterness has made it a well known aperitif, or pre-meal drink, while it's unique flavor has given it the starring role in many famous cocktails like the Negroni and Americano.
Spruce up your Campari Soda
Yup, you're right, this drink is really just pouring Campari into soda water.
But there's a few quick things you can do to take it up a notch.
Try squeezing the oils from a piece of citrus peel over the top of the finished cocktail. Campari drinks have a way of going well with citrus and lemon, lime, grapefruit, or clementine would all be delicious.
If you're feeling crazy you could also stick in a sprig of fresh herbs. Some fresh thyme or rosemary would be nice.
How to garnish with citrus
- Using a vegetable peeler get a 2-3 inch piece of citrus peel.
- Hold the peel skin side down a few inches above the finished drink.
- Quickly squeeze your fingers together to bend the peel forcing the oils onto the top of your cocktail.
This simple technique gives off a really nice citrus smell every time you take a sip, and if you've never tried it before it makes a bigger difference than you might expect.
